Send your Webflow form to email with a custom form action

Webflow's built-in form handling works, but every submission counts against your site plan's form limit, and the submissions live in Webflow's Forms tab. For a client site that also needs GDPR answers and a place to review spam, that's often not enough.

Webflow lets any form post somewhere else instead: set the form's Send to option to a custom action and paste in a PostTo endpoint URL. The browser posts straight to PostTo, which filters spam, emails you the submission, and keeps it in a searchable dashboard. No code, no Logic flows, no Zapier.

Three steps, a few minutes

1

Create an endpoint

Sign up free, create an endpoint in the dashboard, and set your destination email. Set a success redirect URL on the endpoint too, so visitors land on your own thanks page after submitting.

2

Set the form's custom action

In the Designer, select the Form Block, open its settings, choose Custom action under Send to, paste your endpoint URL into Action, and set Method to POST. Remove any Webflow or email destinations still listed there.

3

Name the fields, add the honeypot, publish

Give each input a lowercase Name — name, email, message — so PostTo picks up the sender and Reply-To automatically. Drop a Code Embed element inside the form with the honeypot below, then publish and submit the form from the live URL.

The code

Replace YOUR_TOKEN with the endpoint URL from your dashboard.

<!-- Honeypot: bots fill this in, humans never see it -->
<input type="text" name="_hp" tabindex="-1" autocomplete="off" style="display:none">

<!-- Optional: overrides the endpoint's success redirect for this one form -->
<input type="hidden" name="_next" value="https://yoursite.com/thanks">
What Webflow publishes once the custom action and embed are in place
<form action="https://postto.dev/api/v1/send/YOUR_TOKEN" method="post">
  <input type="text" name="name" placeholder="Name" required>
  <input type="email" name="email" placeholder="Email" required>
  <textarea name="message" placeholder="Message" required></textarea>

  <input type="text" name="_hp" tabindex="-1" autocomplete="off" style="display:none">

Good to know

Webflow's success message won't show

With a custom action, the browser leaves the page and follows PostTo's redirect, so Webflow's built-in success and error states never appear. Set a success redirect URL on the endpoint (or the _next field above) to send visitors to your own thanks page, or leave both out to use PostTo's hosted success page.

Submissions leave Webflow entirely

Webflow never receives a custom-action submission, so it doesn't appear in Webflow's Forms tab or count toward the site plan's form limit — it's in your PostTo dashboard instead, alongside every other endpoint.

Don't skip the honeypot

The hidden _hp field catches most bot spam on its own — bots fill it in, humans never see it, and PostTo silently discards those submissions. First-party heuristic filtering then runs on everything else, and anything flagged is held for review in the dashboard rather than silently dropped.

Frequently asked questions

Do custom-action submissions count toward Webflow's form submission limit?
No. The browser posts straight to PostTo, so Webflow never processes the submission. PostTo's own monthly quota applies instead — 50 submissions on the free plan.
Will I still see submissions in Webflow?
No — they appear in the PostTo dashboard, where you can search them, review anything held as spam, and export them. Webflow's Forms tab only shows submissions Webflow handled itself.
Can I use this on client sites I build in Webflow?
Yes. Create one endpoint per client site, each with its own destination email, and point that site's forms at it. The client's domain DNS isn't touched — PostTo sends from its own verified domain.
What does it cost?
The free plan includes 50 submissions per month with the full dashboard — no credit card required. Paid plans start at $9/month.
